That’s why we’ve made it easier for parents on both sides of the parenting spectrum to connect and meet both their families needs.

Our Story

Hello! I’m Gena, HMIC (Head Mom in Charge) and Founder of Baby Thrift

When hubby and I decided to expand our family after a 14 year hiatus, we sure were in for it.
I found myself feeling like a first time mom all over again- I had all the feels!
My seasoned momminess was overthrown by the excitement of a newborn and a 14 year gap that didn’t quite make me feel like an expert in the baby prep field.

Transparency Alert! We are not the Joneses, but no matter your financial standing and no matter where you are in the world- a baby is sure to leave a dent in your wallet. Between healthcare, a boujee 14-year-old old and the never-ending tales of adulting we quickly realized we just couldn’t do it all.

Sure, we were blessed by friends and families with tons of gifts, and at the end of a beautiful baby shower we were able to tick off quite a few items. But then, there’s the heavy stuff- you know the ones everyone avoids on the registry (haha guilty) the big boys- crib, stroller, car seat, bassinet, playpen. It quickly moved from wanting everything to making a conscionable, responsible decision on wants versus needs….Then came our first loved purchase

Maaan I was hooked. It was a steal! The kinda high that can only come from knowing you just got away with the biggest coin-saving deal known to man. My high crashed when I sent hubby a message- “Babe got a crib! Saved us $80k!…. Kinda used”.
Yep, there it was, I had dishonoured our family name with the ultimate shame of purchasing a second-hand item. Well, that tune quickly changed when hubby came home, saw the crib and said “Let’s do this!”
Soon our nursery was equipped with all we needed and more at just a fraction of an arm and leg.

FFWD

Fast forward to 6 months down the line and our littlest addition had taken up all the space in our heart and home. Literally!
I was one mommy melt-down away when hubby and I stood in the middle of what was once our living room, now expensively decorated with a ton of gear our baby had already grown out – baby gym, swing, activity centre, sit-up chair, bassinet- I mean, I needed to reclaim my space.
Surely, we couldn’t be the only parents with this problem-Lightbulb! It was an Ah Hah moment.
